About the Vijayawada Durgamma trip

Kanaka Durga on Indrakeeladri hill is the Devi that Andhra Pradesh simply calls Durgamma. The swayambhu idol overlooks the Krishna, and during Dasara Navaratri the hill takes on a different alankaram each day, culminating in the Theppotsavam boat festival on the river.

On ordinary days the darshan is quick and the free queue moves well before 8 AM. During Navaratri the same darshan can take several hours, and where you stay decides whether the day is joyful or exhausting.

Vijayawada also gives you the Undavalli rock-cut caves, Bhavani Island, Prakasam Barrage and Mopidevi within easy reach, so we usually build a comfortable two-day loop.
