About the Kolanupaka Someshwara Swamy trip
Kolanupaka, near Aleru, was once a Western Chalukya capital, and the stone work still shows it. The Someshwara Swamy temple carries fine carvings and inscriptions from the eleventh century, and the Renuka Ellamma shrine beside it draws its own steady stream of devotees.
A short walk away is the Kolanupaka Jain mandir, believed to be around two thousand years old, with a jade idol of Mahavira and marble work that surprises everyone who did not expect it in a Telangana village.
Because Yadagirigutta is only about twenty kilometres away, we almost always run these two together as a single, unhurried day out of Hyderabad.
