About the Araku & Vizag trip
The Araku trip earns its reputation on the journey itself. The Kirandul passenger climbs from Visakhapatnam through fifty-eight tunnels and more than eighty bridges into the Eastern Ghats, and there is no road equivalent of that morning.
Up in the valley you have the Borra limestone caves, the Padmapuram gardens, the tribal museum at Araku, coffee plantations, and the walk down to Katiki waterfall. On the coast, Vizag adds Kailasagiri, the Submarine Museum, Rushikonda beach and Simhachalam temple.
The single mistake people make is booking the train one way and then discovering the return is not available. We check both legs before confirming anything, and if the train is full we say so instead of quietly switching you to a cab.

Day 1
Arrive Visakhapatnam
Reach Vizag, Simhachalam darshan, evening on the beach road and RK Beach.
Day 2
Train to Araku
Early Kirandul passenger through the Ghats, Borra caves en route, check in at Araku, tribal museum in the evening.
Day 3
Araku valley
Coffee plantation, Padmapuram gardens, Katiki waterfall trek and Chaparai, return to Vizag by road.
Day 4
Vizag and return
Kailasagiri ropeway, Submarine Museum, Rushikonda, then the return journey.

Is the Araku train worth it or should we drive?
Take the train at least one way. The tunnel section is the highlight of the trip. We usually plan train up and road down so you can stop at Borra caves and the viewpoints.
How many days are enough for Araku and Vizag?
Three days is enough for the essentials; four lets you do Araku without rushing and still enjoy the Vizag coast.
Can Simhachalam and Annavaram be added?
Yes. Simhachalam fits into the Vizag day easily, and Annavaram works as a stop on the way in or out.
